Cherry Creek and Speer Boulevard Vision and Feasibility Study
Client: City and County of Denver
Partners: HDR, Snøhetta, Superbloom, Y2K Engineering
Aschermann Consulting collaborated directly with HDR, Snøhetta, and Superbloom to deliver a visionary feasibility study for the revitalization of Cherry Creek and Speer Boulevard, spanning from I-70 to Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado. The project centered on reimagining this critical corridor as a more vibrant, resilient, and connected public realm that supports ecological health and community well-being.
Aschermann Consulting led the strategy for integrated stormwater quality treatment and green infrastructure—key components of the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate adaptation. By aligning urban design with watershed functionality, the team proposed innovative landscape and infrastructure solutions that enhance water quality, restore natural systems, and improve the pedestrian and bicyclist experience along this historic urban waterway.
This work was recognized with the 2025 Charter Award from the Congress for the New Urbanism, The ASLA Colorado 2024 Professional Award.
“This is of course a conceptual project, but even as concept, I think it represents something new for American cities. We know the work that's been happening in LA and fits and starts and success and non success around the LA River, which is a similar concrete channeled water body. There are stories like this all across the United States. So if this vision were to truly be pulled off, I think it would be a very beautiful thing indeed.”
